Our Star Spangled Day started by walking to the annual Kirkwood Kids Parade.

Some of us walked in the parade.

See Addie leading up the back of the parade in her striped dress.  The parade goes around a big block and back to the start for bomb pops.

IMG_2459

The rest of us waited patiently for Bomb Pops.

IMG_2462

Well, kind of patiently.

BOMB POPS!

Fee, fi, fiddleee, feee, me say, he say, we, we, we, and a box of rocks, michael jackson is my dad, and somehow you are out.

IMG_2482

Back to Camp for lunch al fresco.

IMG_2489

To the pool.

IMG_2569

The Minnesotans seemed cold.

IMG_2571

Somehow we found ourselves taking over the baby pool with a game of baseball.  That’s what we call Barmann style.  Did you know Joe Mauer plays two positions?  Batter and Checher?  See him there behind Grace?

By 4:00 it was time for some naps to prepare for a long night ahead.

Chef Dan made hot dogs and hamburgers for another al fresco meal.  And the BOMB for dessert.  Homemade strawberry shortcake.

IMG_2544

Then it was time to smoke out the neighbors.

IMG_2521

And ourselves.  This could not be a good idea.  Everyone seems to be able to see today but I am a little surprised.  They ran full speed INTO the smoke every time.  Except Nolan who a few times held back as the godfather with his arms behind his back.

IMG_2525

He’s a wise one.

IMG_2523

But don’t worry, he risked his eye sight too.

IMG_2508

There’s potential hearing loss as well.

IMG_2528

This was a common scene for the rest of the day.

IMG_2527

Another wise one.

IMG_2512

It was such a wonderfully gorgeous day.  Perfect sunlight and a slightly cool breeze.  Hands down the best weather we’ve ever had in St. Louis on the 4th of July.

IMG_2499

Did you know they make strobe light fireworks?  The kids danced like crazy while the adults avoided seizures by looking away.

IMG_2518

We headed up to Kirkwood Park for the big fireworks.  Hi Dan.

IMG_2555

Hi Missy.

IMG_2556

Oh my goodness Walker.

IMG_2557

It was a perfectly lovely night.

IMG_2546

And the fireworks were fantastic.  Max thought he was controlling them, ninja style.  Or with the Force.  Or as Iron Man.  Or Mega Man.

Walker and I had a plan that I would cover his ears.  He wanted to cover his eyes but only made it as far as his mouth.  He sat like this for a minute or so and then turned around and buried his face on me.  He never cried, just snuggled in tight.  I did not complain and would honestly like to go back for more fireworks tonight.  I think that would be sort of selfish so I won’t suggest it.

We came home and went ahead and blew some more stuff up and the kids had sparklers. They asked to go to bed and since it was almost 11pm we let them.

Happy 4th of July all!!!
